Postcard Friendship Friday - 10 Mile Radius of Guildford

This is one of my favourite post cards. When I am feeling genealogically stuck, and can not find ancestors, either where they are supposed to have been or where I think they were, I turn to this card and gain inspiration. One of the key things to remember, especially when dealing with rural areas, is that our ancestors would have walked miles, often across fields and along country lanes. What we now walk as a pleasure activity they would have walked out of necessity.

  3. So true - words that made me ponder as well. How long have you been tracing your roots? Quite interesting.

    Happy PFF!

  4. It's a lovely card, one I haven't seen before. It just starts to cover the area of Hampshire where I used to live.

  5. A very nice post. It reminded me of my grandmother, who never left our country. And she told me that her mother had never even left her birthplace. Happy PFF.

  6. I know a lady who has lived in the same house she was born in - for 89 years. Quite remarkable, that!

  7. Thanks everyone for stopping by, I have really surprised at the joy this card has give. I really love this card. My own family, well, most of my Mum's ancestry lived within the 10 mile radius for at least 300 years. My own Grandmother had lived in the same road, although different properties(two) for most of her life. Yet, I have the odd ancestral line, who did remarkable things for the 18th century, India, Australia & Canada.
