Book Blogger Hop

Book Blogger Hop
Book Blogger Hop is the creation of Jen from Crazy for Books. Since October, the weekly hop has been hosted by a variety of book bloggers all across the globe and this week the host is Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer

The question this week is a good one - I wish I had thought of it!

What bookmarker are you currently using?

I love bookmarks.

They are easy to carry as a memorable present if you just want a little something to remember something by, without the fuss of a larger present. They are easy to carry and are affordable. I have quite a few book marks including a few with my name on and what my name means.

With that it mind, it saddens me to confess that my current read is The End of Life Book Club by William Schwalbe and the book mark is the Amazon invoice that came with the book.

I know, it is shameful!

Book Blogger Hop - 7th December - 13th December

Book Blogger Hop

Welcome to the Book Blogger Hop!
Hashtag: #BookBloggerHop

Book Blogger Hop is the creation of Jen from Crazy for Books. Since October, the weekly hop has been hosted by a variety of book bloggers all across the globe. Last week the hop visited Anglers Rest and again this week.

So, without further ado....

Question - We are well into the Festive season, so what is your favourite festive reading?

My Answer - Do you know I am not sure. Over the last few years I have read a few seasonal Christmas books, but there has been nothing special. Perhaps some fellow blog hoppers can recommend one!

Book Blogger Hop - 30th November - 6th December

Book Blogger Hop

Welcome to the Book Blogger Hop!
Hashtag: #BookBloggerHop

Book Blogger Hop is the creation of Jen from Crazy for Books. Since October, the weekly hop has been hosted by a variety of book bloggers all across the globe and for the next two weeks, the hop is visiting Anglers Rest!

So, without further ado....

Question - Apart from being readers, many of us collect books on a specific subject or by a particular author. What books or which author do you collect?

My Answer - I have a pretty substantial collection of genealogical type books. I also collect books about Italian communities in the United Kingdom. One of my favourite author's is Jennifer Chiaverini, known for the series of quilting books set in the fictional quilting retreat known as Elm Creek. I have a complete set of Elm Creek books.

Book Blogger Hop - Is Back!

Book Blogger HopGreat news to see the Book Blogger has returned. There have been a few tweaks to the rules, which you can read HERE.  Twitter Hashtag
This week's question is HERE

Are you attending the Book Blogger Convention (aka Bea Bloggers) and/or Book Expo America in New York City in June? If not, will you participate in the online event called Armchair BEA?

Sadly, I won't be attending the Book Blogger Convention, I would love to, but I am not in the US, so this would be an international trip and cause chaos to my domestics! I will make it one year.

I will be taking part in the Armchair BEA. I did last year, but didn't manage to contribute as much as I would have liked to, as there was a date clash with a professional conference. The dates this this year's BEA is 4-8 June 2012.

Book Blogger Hop - Genre of Books...

This week's prompt is:

“Many of us primarily read one genre of books, with others sprinkled in. If authors stopped writing that genre, what genre would you start reading? Or would you give up reading completely if you couldn’t read that genre anymore?”

What a tricky questions. I have quite broad reading, so I don't know what I would start reading. I am not overly keen on paranormal or science fiction, and whilst I read cozy mysteries I would not start reading horror books, that is not my cup of tea at all!

Book Blogger Hop - Looking Forward to Autumn....

Book Blogger Hop

Here is this week's prompt -
“What are you most looking forward to this fall/autumn season – A particular book release? Halloween? The leaves changing color? Cooler temperatures? A vacation?

I am especially looking forward to our next break in October. We are returning to Jersey where we had a fabulous time back in July. Work has been fairly stressful since I returned from leave at the end of July, so I am looking forward to having another recharge of the batteries and seeing the island in its autumnal colours.

I am also looking forward to the run up to Christmas. I am not especially festive, I leave that to him indoors! but I enjoy watching a grown man get excited by festive foods, presents and perhaps a downfall of snow. Him in doors also has a special birthday just before Christmas so that should be quite fun - I have plans for a lovely cake!

On the book front, I am looking forward to several books being published
  1. Gaetano's Trunk by Alfred M. Zappala. Alfred's first book is reviewed HERE
  2. Threading the needle by Marie Bostwick. This is the 4th book in the Cobbled Quilt series
  3. The Wedding Quilt by Jennifer Chiaverini. This is the 18th book in the Elm Creek Series.

Here is he a few weeks ago, never missing a trick to jump up on the bed and head straight back to sleep. I simply had to share; he is such a sweetheart!

This weeks question is:

"If you find a book you love, do you hunt down other books by the same author?"

Absolutely! - I am slightly obsessive about this and will often want to read a series and will locate or buy the first two or three in the series before starting to read. There is nothing more irritating that getting to the end of a book, and not having the next in the series to start. It is rather like missing an old friend.
Even if the book is not part of a series, I still locate others by the same author.

"Since today is April Fool's Day in the USA, what is the best prank you have ever played on someone OR that someone has played on you?"

It is also April Fools Day in the UK too! I can not recall anyone playing a prank on me. I am sure though, that they have over the years. I can't even recall playing pranks on anyone; I am not organised to get one done or planned before 12 noon!

This weeks question is:

"If you could physically put yourself into a book or series…which one would it be and why?"

I think the answer to this week's question would be the Elm Creek Quilters series by Jennifer Chiaverini. I LOVE this series! This is a series that has grown and evolved. You don't have to start at the beginning of the series and read in order. The storyline is though continuous, although there are books that focus on past events. They come highly recommended!

They are not simply about quilting, they also reflect the lives of individuals and the characters become old friends as they develop and grow. They are essentially about a fictional group of women who meet and form a bond through their love and passion for quilting. The essence is something that is replicated by women (and men) the world over about a whole host of things.

This weeks question is:

"Do you read only one book at a time, or do you have several going at once?"

I prefer to have one book on the go, but am currently in the midst of a ebook for a book review, a paperback library book which needs to be returned by Monday and a great hardback book which is my bedtime reading as I don't want to damage the book by carrying to and from work. I really hate the fact that I am in the middle of so many books, and prefer at a time!

I can't recall a book villain who turns up repeatedly. So, I shall cover my favourite detectives (hope that is okay!). I love the televised Miss Marple, Poirot, Frost and Midsomer Murders. I also like the James Patterson series involving Lindsay Boxer.

No, I don't think so. My blog is called Anglers Rest, which the name of our house. My husband is a very keen fisherman! I have used the name for at least ten years, perhaps longer. Lots of people think it is the name of a pub or hotel, and we routinely get at least a booking online a week!

"What book(s) would you like to see turned into a movie?"

I am going to say three series of books. Both very different from each other, but nonetheless, great books and I am always eager to see the next book in the series. Here they are, not in any particular order.
  1. The Maisie Dobbs series by Jacqueline Winspear
  2. The Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon
  3. The Elm Creek Series by Jennifer Chiaverini
As I said, each series of books is very different and I get lots of pleasure from reading books by these authors.

This week has been fairly busy at work and I have come down with another cold, the 4th since November. I have written two book reviews

I have also spotted a Book Meme, in which feature what is in your mail box There has been a campaign here in the UK to save libraries. Well, with a new job in town I have taken to walking to and from work, on the way passing the library. Monday is one of two late nights, so I nipped in, the first time in more than 18 months. I reactivated my card and left with 4 books, out of a possible 12!

I have also been undertaking a series of genealogy posts, as part of the Family History Writing Challenge in which the challenge is to write every day. I have kept up and do write every day, although I have not posted them all to blogger, as I need to review for spellings etc, posts for days 7 - 12 should happen over the weekend.

"What are you reading now and why are you reading it?"
I am currently in the middle of two reads.
1. A Place of Secrets by Rachel Hore - paperback
2. The Girl on the Wall : One Life's Rich Tapestry by Jean Baggott - Hardback

I spotted A place of secrets when in Smiths, having just had a blood test, and was feel sorry for myself and in need of a reward, although my TBR pile did not really need to grow any more!
The Girl on the Wall was reviewed in one of the Family History magazines last year and I was intrigued. It was a wonderful way of combining two of my obsessions - reading and genealogy.
